A new construction home in Bee Cave needed 4,100 square feet of premium engineered hardwood installed across two levels before the home's final walkthrough. Capital City Flooring Austin delivered a flawless installation on a tight construction timeline.

The Challenge
New construction flooring presents unique challenges: the subfloor may not be fully acclimated, other trades are still working in the home, and the timeline is dictated by the general contractor's schedule rather than the flooring crew's preference. This Bee Cave home had a wood-framed subfloor on both levels with minor squeaks and a few areas of slight deflection that needed to be addressed before installation. The homeowner had selected a 5-inch white oak engineered hardwood with a matte finish — a premium product that required careful handling and precise installation.
Our Solution
We coordinated directly with the general contractor to schedule our work after the HVAC system was running and the home had been at temperature for at least 72 hours — critical for wood acclimation. We addressed the subfloor squeaks and deflection points before any flooring went down. The 5-inch white oak was installed with a full-spread glue-down method on the main level (slab) and a nail-down method on the upper level (wood frame). We ran the floor in the same direction throughout both levels for visual continuity.
Scope of Work
- Pre-installation subfloor inspection across both levels
- Subfloor squeak repair and deflection correction
- Moisture testing and documentation
- 72-hour material acclimation on-site
- Full-spread glue-down installation on main level slab (2,200 sq ft)
- Nail-down installation on upper level wood frame (1,900 sq ft)
- Stair nosing installation on main staircase (14 steps)
- Transition strips at all thresholds and room entries
- Baseboard shoe molding throughout
- Final inspection and touch-up before homeowner walkthrough

The Results
The installation was completed in seven days, meeting the general contractor's schedule. The homeowner's walkthrough revealed zero punch list items related to flooring — no squeaks, no gaps, no lippage. The 5-inch white oak with matte finish gave the home an immediate sense of warmth and luxury that the builder's standard flooring options could not have achieved. The homeowners reported that the flooring was the first thing their family and friends commented on when they toured the home.
"We built this house to be our forever home and we wanted the floors to match that ambition. Capital City was the only flooring company we interviewed that truly understood new construction — they knew how to work with the GC, they knew the sequencing, and they knew how to handle the acclimation properly. The result is exactly what we envisioned. Absolutely beautiful."
