A Tarrytown family with three kids and two dogs needed flooring that could survive real life. After years of patching worn carpet and cracked grout, they chose Capital City Flooring Austin to replace every floor in the home with waterproof LVP — and completed the entire project in four days.

The Challenge
The home had original carpet in all bedrooms and the living room, plus 18-inch ceramic tile in the kitchen, bathrooms, and entry. After 12 years, the carpet was worn through in high-traffic areas and the grout had cracked and stained beyond cleaning. The family needed a floor that could handle three active kids, two large dogs, and frequent spills — without the maintenance burden of hardwood or the cold feel of tile. Budget was also a consideration: they wanted a premium look without premium hardwood pricing.
Our Solution
We recommended COREtec Plus HD waterproof LVP in a 9-inch wide plank format with a warm honey-oak tone. The wider plank format gives the open floor plan a more expansive, luxurious feel while the 100% waterproof core means spills, pet accidents, and mopping are never a concern. The attached underlayment provides sound dampening — critical in a home with kids. We ran the same plank throughout the entire main level and all bedrooms for a seamless, unified look.

The Results
The family moved back in after four days to a completely transformed home. The warm honey-oak LVP unified the previously disconnected floor plan and made every room feel larger and brighter. The parents reported that cleanup is dramatically easier — a Swiffer and occasional mop is all it takes. Eighteen months in, the floor shows no wear, no scratches from the dogs, and no issues from the kids' spills. The project came in under the hardwood alternative by approximately $8,000.
"We had gotten quotes from three other companies and Capital City was the most thorough. They actually came out, measured everything, checked the subfloor, and explained exactly what they were going to do. The crew was professional, fast, and cleaned up every day. The floor looks incredible and our kids and dogs have put it through its paces — zero issues."
